| 'Damn that Kiba' Bain thought, irritated. 'Ditching me at that river and making me run the rest of the way.'
Small grains of hot sand stuck annoyingly between his paws and got under his nails, which was some of the cause toward his bad mood. The sun was at high noon and beating it's heat onto the earth below. Bain wasn't too troubled by it, he was hot all the time. But he was getting thirsty, which was another reason he was ticked at Kiba.
'Stupid Water wolf can just summon water and take a drink, but for me? Noooooooooo! I get the power to heat things up!! How is that useful here in a freaking desert wasteland!!?! Am I even going in the right direction anymore?!!'
'I'm finding the heat to be quite lovely.'
'SHUT UP!!'
Obviously too much heat took a toll on a wolfs mood.

| Hopping from one cliff ledge to the next Bain followed the greenery deeper into the canyon, with no sight yet of water. He frowned, looking up at the sun. It had moved during journey, getting lower in the sky to his left, meaning that he was going North. His fur contrasted against the reddish sand and cliffs, making him far to easy to spot for his liking.
'These deserts are by far the best place that your pathetic Earth has.' Eshtay had become more and more restless during the journey, he was usually content just to watch quietly, but for some reason he was chattering unnecessarily. Bain suspected that he was like this because Kyruh was not in his sense range, not that the Fire Spirit would ever admit it. But Bain could understand how he felt; he didn't like not having Deathrow near him either, it made him edgy. 'It's hot and has beautiful scenery, not like that damnable forest where everything was covered in that disgusting moss and that irritating chirping in the morning.'

| Bain didn't bother to tell him to shut it. Eshtay's talking wouldn't echo off the canyon walls like his would.
The sun had fallen out of his sight now and the chill a dessert takes on after sunset began to creep its way up. Bats were taking flight from there caves, their screeches making Bain pin his ears back. Curling up on a ledge he watched the stars blink into sight. They were much more bright here, and more easily seen. He sighed, missing Deathrow more than ever and wishing for the pups as well.
Resting his chin on his tired paws Bain closed his eyes and slowly fell into a light sleep, ears alert for any surprises.

| Morning granted the canyons a soft light, gradually wakening up small birds and rodents to greet the new day. Bain let out a tongue curling yawn, stretching out his stiff legs, before shaking himself free of sand and heading along the rough cliff trail. It wasn't long when he could finally hear the soft roar of a river echoing in the canyon and he quickly picked up his pace.
Leaping up on to a particularly large bolder he was taken quite by surprise. There, laying dead and inviting, was the oddest creature he had ever come across. It had the characteristics of a wild hog but its head looked beaverish. It was fat with meat and was definitely a fresh kill. Bain took a tentative sniff, he had heard stories of humans who would poison meat to kill troublesome wolves, but there was not a scent of a human within 1,050 miles.
He did, however catch the very fresh sent of stranger wolves. The carcass was covering in it along with the surrounding rocks. He had suspected a pack nearby; he did not expect them so close though. And there was a very nice kill just laying here.
Bain's sharp eyes swept the area of any movement while his ears and nose went hyperactive to catch any signs of an ambush. For several tense moments nothing happened, nor did his senses pick up anything.
'What are you deliberating for?' Eshtay's nagging voice cut in. 'Your hungry right? There's a meal ready and served?!'
'It could be a trap.' Bain reminded him.
'There is no one around!'
'Why would any wolf, especially one who lives in such harsh conditions without any food, just leave a kill right on the path?'
'Could be that they scented us coming and ditched?' he suggested, even though he knew it was unlikely. A wolf just wouldn't walk away from a kill just because a stranger was in the area, especially two wolves. 'An offering then?'
'Unlikely.'
'Well what now then?' He was frustrated. 'We've yet to see any prey around in the last four days! Are you just going to leave a perfectly good meal to waste?'

| Bain carefully swept the area again for any sign of life, then looked back down at the kill. ‘Fine, well take it. But only in case it is an offering. We don’t know the costumes of these strangers, it would be best not to offend them.’ Content with the compromise Eshtay once again become the silent observer. Grabbing the odd kill securely Bain made his way once again toward the sounds of the river, with two hidden figures trailing behind slowly and silent. | |

| Bain was never happier to see water in his entire life. The large stream was clear and sparkling, with no traces of red desert sand at all. Dropping the kill Bain lapped up the warm water in earnest, barely stopping for a breath until his throat was no longer dry and his stomach stretched with water. Which was probably not the best plan seeing as he may get a stomach ache later for it. Bain then jumped into the stream, submerging himself to his shoulders and even dunking his head in a few times. The water may not have been cool, but it was cool enough to have some relief from the sun and to wash away the coat of red sand he had acquired on his journey.
After his short bath and letting his stomach settle, the male made his way back to shore, dripping water on the worn smooth rock, making it appear even darker then it was. After shaking off, Bain looked toward the sun again. It was nearly noon, meaning he had relaxed far too long. Going back the offered kill, he once again picked it up and continued following the canyon stream North.

| ‘They’re still following’
‘I’m well aware Eshtay.’
‘Think they want their prey back ?’
‘I don’t sense any hostility…they seem to just be curious.’
‘But for how long?’
Yes, that was the question. How long until the trailing wolves would be satisfied with just curiosity? Bain didn’t think he would be getting much sleep tonight. The small steam that they had first come to was becoming lager pools with many more different and interesting plants surrounding them. Cover was no longer that much of an issue, his gray back may contrast with the red sand, but he was more than well covered in the shadows. Bain was also beginning to see more signs of life. Small creatures scurried into trees or small holes upon his brisk approach while small birds chirped amongst themselves in the bushes and trees.
It was amazing what water could do to such a barren place. The sand became larger the farther Bain traveled, becoming more pebble like, but still getting stuck between his toes. Bain’s ears perked ahead at sudden unexpected sound, making him tense briefly. Had his followers come around to the front? No, he would have seen at least that. Listening closer he discovered the sound was yipping, much like that of pups. And where there were pups there was a protective mother.

| Moving carefully, so as not to startle anyone, the Fire Elemental made his way forward until the pups came into sight. Coyotes. Four little coyote pups were tumbling around in the dirt under half fallen tree. Bain raised an eyebrow looking for a parent, but found, nor scented one around. The pups were thin and small, far to thin to be considered healthy. He frowned, before his life in the forest with Deathrow he might had just let nature take its course. But now…
Sighing Bain slowly walked toward the pups and kept his posture friendly, his size could vary likely scare them. By now they had noticed his approach and had stopped their playing, choosing instead to scramble for shelter deeper under the tree. The wolf reached the tree and set down his burden near the trees opening before continuing on his way.
‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?’ Eshtay obviously was against his choice. ‘They’re just going to die anyway! Why prolong the inevitable?’
‘Because they need it more then me.’
‘You are a fool.’ | |

| ( OOC: speeding things up )
It was nearly dark before his followers announced themselves. Bain had been about to settle for the night when he heard their call. He and Eshtay and argued about letting them near, in the end Bain welcomed them over. The wolves were both male and looked to be only just two years. Their coats fit well with their dusty environment and were quite smaller then than other wolves he had met.
The two introduced themselves as Talem and Took, both brothers of a hidden pack here in the canyons. They had admitted to have followed Bain in and said they were unsure how to handle his coming. No other wolves had ever made it as far as he had from the desert. The two were friendly and mighty curious, asking Bain many questions about the South and its forests. Wanting to know what prey was there and the types of wolves.
They wanted to know if all wolves of the forest were as big as Bain was.
“No, I’m an abnormity.” He answered.
Well into the night they had shared information comfortably about each other, almost as they had been pack mates all their lives. But Bain was careful not to mention his power over fire or his friends.
When morning came around the three had had little to no sleep but Talem and Took were as energetic as pups, hopping and wrestling as they traveled along the worn trail. Around noon Bain finally caught wind of a pack’s sent. The brothers were excited to share the news of a new wolf in the area with their pack but Bain, nor Eshtay, was as enthusiastic.

| The cliffs around them began to show more ledges and paths the closer they reached the pack. It wasn’t long before Bain spotted the pack’s patrol team on the cliffs then breaking up one half down to them while the other, Bain assumed, to tell the Alpha.
The patrol leader was not as friendly as the brothers had been on asking questions. Which lead to much tension until a messenger came with orders from the Alpha. The Alpha wanted to meet the stranger wolf personally, and also to have a word with the mischievous brothers.
Bain, Took, and Talem got a royal escort to the main cave, through the packs hub. Wolves were everywhere. None of the canyons ledges and large boulders was left unoccupied. The wolves here were not that much taller than the brothers and all had very light colored coats. Bain was stared at awed at as he followed the patrol leader through the main cave. Whispers raising behind him.
The Alpha was in on his years and surrounded by a much older counsel. Bain showed his respect to the elder in which his guide scoffed at. Alpha Izrie greeted Bain in return and explained that this was the Fire Clan, a hidden Pack that was gifted with Fire manipulators. And was not kind to spies from distant lands. Imagine their surprise when Bain told his tale of coming into a power that was considered a rarity in the pack.
After much talking and swapping of information, Bain learned that the Fire Clan was at a War with the Water Clan. Evidently, the Water Clan had complete control over the Fire Packs water supply. And was forcing the pack to hunt and fight for them, and receiving little in return. Fire elementals were in small number and were far smaller than the wolves of the Water Clan. Izrie said that they were starting to make the Water Elders see their sides of things, but were afraid of the new upcoming Chief.
Yuma was a corrupt wolf who knew how to sway others and get his way. He would love to have power over others and Izrie feared for the packs safety.

| It got into the old wolfs head that Bain coming here had been a gift from the gods to lead them out of the Water Clans rule. And then suddenly appointed him the army’s leader. Well, that didn’t go over to well with the patrol leader, who was named Polan. Bain summed up that Polan had been the original leader and had taken great pride and care in it. He had trained hard and had assembled quite a few talented and strong wolves for his army. Izrie argued that since Bain was an outsider, he may have a different point of view as to handle the situation, and was far more capable then a three year old battle hungry pup.
That was a sting on the Males pride and he became silent and stiff for the rest of the discussion. No one really cared that Bain was trying, without success, to get the conversation turned around so that it didn’t involve him at all.
The Main Cave was emptied late into the night with a happy counsel, a not so happy Patrol leader, two confused but excited brothers, and Bain, a reluctant army leader and the Fire Clans only hope.

| The following morning news had traveled like wild fire that the warriors had left the canyons, lead by Polan, to the North to confront the Water Clan. After a hasty breakfast, and another onslaught of information about the Water Clan wolves and the territory Bain was all but thrown out of the canyons and on a hunt to stop the Warriors before it was too late.
It really didn’t surprise Bain that much that Talem and Took had rushed to join him, or the fact that Eshtay was all for kicking some butt. So on they went, following the river to face a war.
